variety is reporting that the Dark Horse Comics Hit title, The Umbrella Academy, will be the first film to be made as part of their three year deal with Universal Pictures.

Mark Bomback, the man who scripted the recent Rock vehicle, Race to witch Mountain, will be adapting the series for film. He’s also known for his work writing the script for Live Free or Die Hard.

For those of you unfamiliar with the series, “Umbrella Academy,” is about a disbanded group of seven superheroes who reunite after the death of their adoptive father, an alien disguised as a famous entrepreneur, and carry out his plan to save the world.

This is far from the first film venture for Dark Horse. Not only are they the power behind Hellboy, but “The Mask,” “Alien vs. Predator,” “Sin City” and “300” are all based on their books.
