Police in Youngstown, Ohio are worried about more than petty theft and vandalism. The law enforcement department is being besieged by calls from frightened residents about zombie-like raccoons that have been scaring the crap out of them.
Over the last month, the local police received 14 calls from homeowners saying that the saw the raccoons standing upright on their back legs and showing off their fangs.
Robert Goggeshall, a wildlife photographer was extremely troubled by his encounter.
“He would stand up on his hind legs, which I’ve never seen a raccoon do before, and he would show his teeth and then he would fall over backward and go into almost a comatose condition.”
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources doesn’t think we are looking at a zombie apocalypse, but it might be an outbreak of distemper, a disease that can cause digestive problems, respiratory issues, and seizures. Humans are safe, but dogs and cats need to be careful as the disease is very contagious for them.
