Gamer girls call to arms with this new viral video that’s slowly making its way around the web. I can’t tell if they’re trolling or pissed off, but kudos for the effort to bring some sanity and “code” to the gaming community. From the video description:
“Don’t be racist. Don’t be homophobic. Don’t be sexist. Follow that code and everybody will have a good time. And when someone breaks that code, CALL THEM OUT. Don’t just let it ride.”
It’s unfortunate that while the video serves a positive message, I can’t help but KNOW that it’ll lead to more harm than good. Look ladies, it’s about to be 2012. If some guy is being a misogynist douche to you, you game up and just kick his ass. Ranting about it an unity video isn’t going to change or address an underling problem with our culture and society that’s fundamentally patriarchal, sexist, racist, homophobic and various other isms.
Yes, I understand that gaming may be an outlet to escape these social issues, but the gaming world is much like the wild west. Pwn or be pwned. So level up, game up, and fight for what’s your because it’s here for the taking regardless of who you are.
