When David R. Ellis passed away, South African director Ralph Ziman took over the directing duties for the live action remake of Yasuomi Umetsu’s 1998 Japanese anime film, KITE.

Now we also know who will be starring in the film. Samuel L. Jackson is starring with India Eisley (The Secret Life Of The American Teenager, Maleficent) and Callan McAuliffe (Underground: The Julian Assange Story, The Great Gatsby).

Despite the passing of the original director, primary photography is still on target to start this month. 0

Here’s the synopsis of the original anime from IMDB:
She may be cute. She may be young. She may seem innocent and naive, but don’t be fooled. She’s a cold-blooded killer, and if you’re on the wrong side of the law, you may be her next target. After being orphaned at a young age, her parents victims of a brutal double murder, Sawa was taken in by the detective assigned to her case. Not content to just watch as the imperfect justice system let more and more criminals go loose every day, he’s decided to train her to be his instrument of justice. After all, who’d suspect a pretty college student of being a deadly vigilante?

In case you’ve never experienced Kite, here’s a taste:
