Mini Museum

Honestly, this is one of the most exciting things we’ve had a chance to bring you in the guide this year. There aren’t many gifts out there that pretty much encompass the entire history of the world. Every year, the folks at Mini Museum curate historically and culturally significant specimens and then turn them into 4″ wide x 5″ tall x 1″ thick works of art. They take small pieces of each specimen and embed it inside an acrylic block that you can keep forever. Each year the selection changes and each Mini Museum is individually numbered and limited. Some of the things in this year’s museum will really blow you away. We’re talking about everything from gems that were created before the Earth was formed to pieces of Steve Jobs’ turtleneck and a tiny chunk of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding cake! To top it all off for you, it also comes with a special 160+ page book that gives you a detailed history of every item in the museum. Here’s a full list for you: SPACE GEMS (4,557,000,000 years old), OLDEST EARTH (4,374,000,000 years old), GREAT OXYGEN EVENT (3,020,000,000 years old), OLDEST RIVER (Finke, 400,000,000 years old), JURASSIC TREE, CRINOID (170,000,000 years old), SPINOSAURUS (Spine), ANKYLOSAURUS (Bone), MOSASAUR (Jaw), SAN ANDREAS FAULT, MEGALODON (Tooth), MOLDAVITE (14,400,000 years old), GIANT SLOTH (Claw), DIRE WOLF (Bone), EGYPTIAN PAPYRUS, VIKING AXE (10th Century), SAMURAI SWORD (14th Century), VENICE (14th Century), ROUGH OPAL (Australia), FIRST TRANSATLANTIC CABLE, ALCATRAZ, WWII ENIGMA (Rotor), FORDITE (Motor Agate), THE BEATLES (Cavern Club), SR-71 (Blackbird), PELÉ (Soccer ball), CHARLES & DIANA (Royal Wedding Cake), STEVE JOBS (Turtleneck), SPACE STATION MIR (Cosmonaut Food).

If you are looking for the perfect gift for the history buff in your life, there’s really nothing more impressive than the Mini Museum.

The Ultimate Rubber Band Gun

When I was a kid, I used to shoot rubber bands with my fingers and pretend that they were guns. Now that I’m all grown up, I can’t be seen doing such childish things. Why… if I’m going to shoot someone with a rubber band, it better be via an expertly crafted replica of of a well respected fire arm like a PPK, 1911, or an MP-5. What’s more, I don’t want to shoot just one rubber band. I need something that will shoot at least five rubber bands, if not as many as 24! Well, guess what. That’s exactly what Elastic Precision has done. These wooden rubber band guns are more art than toy. The craftsmanship that goes into them is truly something to behold, and it’s absolutely a blast to fire. It loads up in seconds and (depending on the model), fires multiple rubber bands (one after the other) up to 30 feet. It’s the ultimate in office warfare, or just the best desk toy that you’ll ever own!

Pokémon Pikachu Coin Bank - ThinkGeek Exclusive

I’m sure you’ve seen the cat bank before, right? You put a coin on a box and then a cat pops up to pull it inside. Sure it’s cute, but it’s not Pikachu cute. Thinkgeek has taken the classic idea of the cat bank and made it a million times better by adding Pokemon and better technology. Yes, Pikachu still pops up and grabs the coin, just like a cat, but instead of just the same meow, over and over and over again, this bank has over 200 sounds and phrases that it cycles through. And, you know what’s even cooler than a bank that makes 200 sounds? How about one that you can turn the sound off when it gets a little annoying? That alone makes the Pikachu Coin Bank a great gift!

Solo Stove Titan

The problem with campfires is that they can get way too smokey and they need a lot of wood to keep them going. If you have anyone who loves to camp in your life, they have probably already experienced these problems. That’s what makes the Solo Stove Titan the perfect gift for them. The easiest way to describe what makes it great is that the construction of it makes it so your fire needs a lot less fuel, and it burns more efficiently, so there is a lot less smoke. We like the Titan in particular, because it’s big enough to service 2-4 people, but small enough that it (5″x7″ assembled) that it is no hassle to carry it around.

Now, just so we don’t the Titan short, here’s the official explanation about how it works: “The air intake holes on the bottom of the stove channels air to the bottom of the fire while at the same time, channels warm air up between the walls of the stove. This burst of preheated oxygen feeding back into the firebox through the smaller holes at the top of the stove causes a secondary combustion. This allows the fire to burn more complete which is why there is very little smoke during full burn. A more efficient burn also means you’ll use much less wood compared to an open camp fire. The Solo Stove Titan doesn’t just burn wood. It actually cooks the smoke out of the wood and then burns the smoke not once, but twice!”

Quiet Punch

Sometimes, you just want to hit something. We’ve all had that moment in our life where we can feel our fists ball up, but there’s no place to go with it. Enter Quiet Punch, the best in-home punching bag solution that we’ve ever seen. Punching bags are great, but they are unwieldy and a pain in the butt to install. The Quiet Punch went up in our doorway in less than 2 minutes without any nails or screws. It installs with two adjusting rods that work just like shower rods. The further you set them apart, the more tension you’ll have on the punching surface, and then you are off to the races. Quiet Punch really does get our highest recommendation. We found that it was not only an excellent source of exercise (you have access to several coaching videos with your purchase), but it is one hell of a stress reliever. Get in an argument? Punch the Quiet Punch, Get bogged down with too many email? Punch the Quiet Punch. Somebody tried to spoil The Last Jedi for you by telling you details from Battlefront 2? Punch the hell out of that Quiet Punch!

Ororo Heated Jackets

If you’ve ever lived someplace where it snows, you know that sometimes even jacket isn’t enough to keep you warm. Thank goodness for Ororo. They’ve created a jacket that is not only one of the warmest and most comfortable jackets that we’ve ever tried on (I endured nearly 20 Massachusetts winters), but it has a secret trick that will make every other victim of the winter envious. It has the most magnificent heater built right into it. It heats you front to back, and depending on the setting and warmth level you choose, it will keep on going for anywhere from 3-10 hours before you have to recharge the battery pack. Add that to the fact that it’s wind and water-proof and you have possibly the best jacket ever created. Now, there’s a good chance that you have the same question we did before we tried it… how do you clean it? Well, other than the removable battery, the whole thing is safe to throw in the washing machine!

Rocketbook Wave

There is so much that we love about the Rocketbook Wave. It looks like just a normal notebook, but it is so much more than that. I mean, yes, it is a notebook. But, it’s a notebook that helps you organize by giving you a way to automatically save pages of notes to the cloud or different organized locations with the ease of a click and a pen stroke. On top of that, it can be erased by popping it the microwave with a cup of water. As soon as the logo changes color, the pages are blank and you can start all over!
