Last week we wrote that Chris Evans was offered the role of Captain American from Marvel Studios. Today, Evans has officially accepted the offer.

Evans’ offer would include starring in up to three “America” movies plus “The Avengers” movies and appearances in several other Marvel movies.

Hugo Weaving is in negotiations with Marvel Studios to play the villain Red Skull in Joe Johnston’s “The First Avenger: Captain America.”

“The First Avenger: Captain America” may not open this year, but it doesn’t means fans can’t get in on the hype.

“We have a very short list, but we’re still juggling actors here. I’d say within the next couple of weeks we’ll have ourselves a Captain America, I hope.”

The film, he says at this early stage, will begin “in 1942, 1943″ during World War II. “The stuff in the ’60s and ’70s [comic books] we’re sort of avoiding.
