Although unconfirmed, Twitch is reporting that “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart has been offered the role of Kei in the live-action remake of “Akira.
In the anime, Kei is a member of an anti-government faction and becomes the essential love interest of biker gang leader Kaneda (Garrent Hudlund).
While Warner Bros. has not officially announced this, Twitch was the first to report how Gary Oldman, Helena Bonham Carter and Garrett Hedlund were offered roles for the US adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic manga.
Kristen Stewart is currently on set filming Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” which stars Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.
While some people seem to dislike Stewart because of her involve in “Twilight,” I actually think she’d make a good Kei and this is a smart and opportunistic casting choice by WB.
