The Weinstein seems to be moving ahead with their plans to bring “Six Million Dollar Man” to the big screen. According to a report by LatinoReview, the Weinsteins have struck up a deal with Universal and Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) is slated to direct. Because of inflation, the film is said to be titled “The Six Billion Dollar Man.”
“The Six Billion Dollar Man” is based on a book called “Cyborg” by Martin Caidin. It was also a former television series about a former astronaut with bionic implants. The title role of Steve Austin was played by Lee Majors who went on to become a pop culture icon of the 1970s.
While production is just beginning, it’s reported that Singer has met with Leonardo DiCaprio and is seeking him for the lead role of Steve Austin. DiCaprio has not accepted the role and prefers to read a script become committing to the part. Jim Carrey was once attached to star. Oh how things have changed.
With this recent development, the news of a new “Six Million Dollar Man” film just went from a snore to something of interest. DiCaprio is a fine actor, and while I’m not that big of a Singer fan, I know he’s competent enough to not drop the ball… just as long as he doesn’t deck Steve Austin out in black leather.
