“The Office” co-executive producer/co-star Mindy Kaling is teaming up with “The Office” and “Parks & Recreation” executive producer Greg Daniels to bring a brand new animated comedy to NBC.
Kaling will be writing and executive producing the new project which, focuses on a girls high-school volleyball team. Aside from writing and producing Kaling will also lend her voice talents to one of the eventual characters.
I’m a big fan of Kaling and I cannot wait to see how this turns out. I just hope it’s actually animated and not done in the style of Jonah Hill and Fox’s new animated show “Allen Gregory,” which I absolutely despise.
Kaling’s new show will be one of the two new primetime animations NBC hopes to have in 2012 and beyond.
“One of our focuses will be to return Greg [Daniels] to primetime animation, for which he had particular success with King of the Hill when he and I worked together at FBC,” NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said in announcing the deal.
Daniels is also in charge of bringing another animated show that is being put together by “Parks & Recreation” producer Alan Yang. This second show is said to be about “a group of 20something guys sharing a house in Los Angeles’ upscale community of Hancock Park.”
