Last week, ads for a weird looking movie started popping up on TV and online. My first instinct was… WTF is this crap. Apparently, I was not the only one. The first red flag in the trailer for The Oogieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure wasn’t even how bad it looked, but that it was being pushed as “From the marketing genius behind “The Teletubbies”.
The film is being billed as an interactive film that kids can get up and dance along to. Sadly, based on the fact that it just averaged $47 per theater for the three day weekend, there were probably more kids in the trailer than in the actual audience.
The total damage for the film was $448,131 from 2,160 theaters in its debut three-day weekend. That makes it the seconds crappiest wide opening of a film since Delgo, which earned $511,920 in its opening weekend from 2,160 theaters.
What is sad about this film is that there are some awesome people in it. Awesome people who apparently either got offered a lot of money or were being blackmailed to participate in what is likely to be known as the newest interrogation tool employed by the CIA at our black sites.
Who is in the movie? Jamie Pressly, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Cloris Leachman, Chaz Palmentari and Toni Braxton. I hope they are all firing their agents or checking into rehab as I write this.
