As much as I’m excited about Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, I’m kind of bummed about this announcement. Olivia Munn got her start on G4’s Attack of the show alongside Kevin Pereira. As much of a geek as Kevin was (you can still see him geeking out on his Life Hacker show on cable), Munn was an actress who played the role, up to and including writing a book about being a geek girl… but then refusing to to allow anyone to ask her anything geek related in interviews. It worked for her. She moved up the ladder from TV to movies, including a stint with Woody Allen.
Now, she’s back in the geekosphere as Betsy Braddock, AKA Psylocke, a martial arts trained mutant who has the power of telepathy and a deadly psychic knife.
I’ve got great hopes for the film and am excited about most of the cast. I think Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse is a great casting job and I’m excited to see Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler. I’m also really excited that we aren’t just getting angel, but Archangel.
But, Munn having anything to do with the film? Eh.
