When you think of Boston, you might think of the Red Sox, Beautiful Fall leaves, and horrible traffic, but very few people think of massive volcanoes. According to some scientists at Rutgers University, that’s exactly what you should be thinking of based on a new discovery they made of a giant lake of lava that is currently boiling under Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire.
The lava lake is very unexpected for the region, given it’s reputation for geological stability, and researchers are convinced that the molten rock will eventually find a way to erupt to the surface. The good news is that it’s probably not going to happen for a couple of million years.
