The Walking Dead family is about to grow a little more. Despite the recent loss of Rick and Maggie and the announcement that Danai Guerra’s Michonne would be leaving the show during season 10, it looks like a whole new group of survivors will be taking on walkers when AMC launches their third series in the Walking Dead franchise. There are currently very few details on the new series, but we know the network has placed a 10-episode order and is looking to start production of the series this summer. Don’t be surprised if the big cast reveal comes at San Diego Comic-Con, a favorite haunt for the Robert Kirkman-created series.
The one thing we currently know about the series is that it will “feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come of age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.” There’s no word on whether there will be any bleed-over between the new series, The Walking Dead, or Fear the Walking Dead like the first two did with the additions of Dwight and Morgan from the original series to the spin-off.
Here’s what AMC’s head of programming, David Madden, had this to say:
“We’re thrilled that the Dead will keep walking into a new corner of the post-apocalyptic world, a corner that will present stories and characters unlike any that The Walking Dead has dramatized thus far, and that is bound to excite one of the most passionate fanbases in television.”
