With Sony’s “Spider-Man 4” unable to meet its planned release date of May 6, 2011, Paramount and Marvel Entertainment have adjusted their release date for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Thor” to take advantage of this new opportunity.
“Thor” has vacated its previously announced release date (May 20, 2011) to claim the new date of May 6, 2011 to kick off the summer blockbuster season. Meanwhile, “Pirates 4” will sail into the slot made vacant by “Thor’s” departure of May 20, 2011.
Paramount are saying, however, that if Spider-Man 4 does turn out to arrive on time, they will vacate their spot again not wanting to pit Pirates against Superheroes.
Other release dates for 2011 include: “The Hangover 2,” with the current release date of May 28th, WB’s “Green Lantern” on June 17th, “Transformers 3” on July 4th, part 2 of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” on July 18th, and Captain America on July 25th.
Whether Spidey 4 sees a May release is not that important, the summer of 2011 will be spectacular with its much anticipated sequels and new exciting comic book adaptations. Yes, it’s good to be a geek!
