I’ve always loved Wyland’s statues. His blending of acrylic and metals to build lifelike ocean views filled with dolphins, turtles and other creatures has always blown me away. Ben Young might be one of the first artists who gives me a similar feeling with his art… and all he’s using is Glass, Concrete and a little bronze.

Young builds his oceanscapes by layering sheets of hand-sculpted float glass and combining it with concrete landscapes. Amazingly, he isn’t a trained sculptor, but a trained boat builder. Also, all of his work is done by hand without the use of any 3D modeling software.

On his own work, Ben said:
“I love watching the two dimensional shapes evolve into three-dimensional creations and the different way the light plays inside the glass. I love the liquid qualities the glass brings with it. It enables me to play with lighting and watch the glass react.”
