One of the best works of I’ve read in the last several years of comic books is The Mouse Guard. It was a book I picked up on the word of friends, and it managed to capture me immediately with its stunning art and surprisingly engrossing story. While I’ve not had a chance read the book lately, those early issues are lifetime favorites. Now, David Petersen’s work looks like it will be getting a whole new audience by way of a big screen adaptation.
Producing the adaptation wiil be Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves and Gary Whitta, the screenwriter for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is on scrip duty. screenwriter Gary Whitta. For his part, Reeves is planning to use the technology pioneered for Apes for a live-action/CG hybrid film.
If you are not familiar with the story, it tells the tale of a brotherhood of mice who are living in medieval times. The series has won several awards, along with the hearts of its fans for complex and mature storylines.
