I have a lot of trouble figuring out 20th Century Fox when it comes to how they’ve handled Marvel up to this point. They’ve had a few films in the mix that hold up to re-watching, but the main X-Men franchise has continued to lose credibility over the years. It’s only saving grace has been the success of offshoot films like Logan and Deadpool. There are glimmers of hope like the interesting new take that they’ll be taking on New Mutants, and the knowledge that X-Force will be tied more to the Deadpoolverse than the current X-Verse, but then we’ve got other things to weigh against it like Fantastic Four, a franchise they seem determined to run into the ground because it is better than having to give it back to Marvel.
Today, 20th Century Fox came out with five release dates for upcoming Marvel films. Here they are:
June 7, 2019
November 22, 2019
March 13, 2020
June 26, 2020
October 2, 2020
March 5, 2021
We don’t know what the movies are for, though you can guess that there’s probably a New Mutants Sequel in there and maybe and X-Force sequel. Will there be another FF attempt, or maybe even Silver Surfer? I really hope not, but time is running out before the license reverts back to Marvel.
Are Deadpool and Logan the beginning of a new era in Fox/Marvel films, or were they a fluke for the studio? Time will tell.
