By now, most of you have see Star Wars The Force Awakens. What you might not realize is just how many celebrities were sprinkled through the film. Vanity Fair has pulled together a list of 24 that may surprise and delight you… in the case of Daniel Craig, will just make make you laugh.
There had been unconfirmed rumors of Craig’s appearance in the film for a while now, but fans were still left wondering where he fit in, even after they left the theater. It turns out that the 007 actor was actually the Storm Trooper that Rey used to test out her mind control powers.
Meanwhile, it looks like Gwendoline Christie didn’t come from the Game of Thrones set all on her own.
Joining her in the film were Thomas Brodie-Sangster as First Order Petty Officer Thanisson. He plays Jojen Reed on Game of thrones and is also the voice of Ferb on Fineas and Ferb. His screen time is pretty limited as fin kills him while trying to escape with Poe.
Other game of Thrones talent appearing in the film included:
Jessica Henwick as X-Wing Pilot Jess Testor
Mark Stanley (Jon Snow’s doomed friend Grenn) as the leader of the Knights of Ren
Ren. Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel) as a patron in Maz Kanata’s bar
Emun Elliott (singer Marillion) as the Resistance fighter who says – “A laser cannon?”
The Cast of The Raid appeared in the film as the Kanjiklub. Specifically, Indonesian actors and stunt fighters Yayan Ruhian, Iko Uwais, and Cecep Arif Rahman appear as Tasu Leech, Razoo Qin-Fee and Crokind Shand, members of Kanjiklub Gang. They get dispatched pretty quickly by the creatures that Han and Chewie were hauling.
Simon Pegg appeared in the film as Junkyard dealer Unkar Plutt. He also helped JJ Abrams fine tune the story and script.
Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz as BB-8
Originally Hader was to provide an actual voice to BB-8, but everyone agreed that it sounded dumb. As a result, Hader and Schwartz helped consult on his various beeps and boops.
Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi
No, you didn’t see him, but you did hear his voice when Rey first picked up Luke’s Light Saber. You also heard a little bit of Frank OZ as Yoda and Mark Hammil screaming NOOOOOO from Emipire strikes back.
They weren’t the only ones to lend voices to the film. JJ Abrams and Kevin Smith both did a bit of voice over work for Force Awakens.
Billie Lourd as Lieutenant Connix
A lot of people were expecting Billie Lourd to appear in a flash back as a younger version of her mother, Carrie Fisher. Instead, we still got her with the ear muffs, but she was there as a Lieutenant in General Organa’s resistance.
She wasn’t the only family member to land a spot in the film. JJ Abrams cast his dad, Gerry Abrams, as Captain Cypress. Meanwhile, Christopher Lee’s niece brought the family back to the light side of the force as Dr. Kalonia, the medic who patches Chewie up and steals one of the best small scenes in the film.
Greg Grunberg as Snap Wexley
Wexley was one of the few X-Wing pilots to survive the film, and for good reason. Grunberg appears to be Abrams good luck charm. Not only are they childhood friends, but he’s been in just about everything that Abrams has done including: Felicity, Alias, Lost, Heroes, and Mission: Impossible III
Ken Leung as Admiral Statura
Ken is another hold over from Lost, where he played Miles Straume. Now he’s an admiral in an intergalactic army. Not a bad promotion.
Warwick Davis as Wollivan
Davis first joined the Star Wars universe as Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi. He then played some roles in The Phantom Menace and has now returned to play Wollivan a patron in Maz Kanata’s tavern with “short, pink snout” and “puckered eyes.” He’s not the only familiar face in the bar. We aren’t quite sure where, but somewhere in that scene you can also find 30 Rock’s Judah Friedlander.
