Adi Shankar Tapped To Create ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Anime

Assassin’s Creed didn’t work as a movie, even with Michael Fassbender as the lead, but could it work as an anime? It looks like we are about to find out. Filmmaker Adi Shankar just announced via Facebook that Ubisoft has tapped him to create an original story set in the Assassin’s Creed Universe and set it as an anime series. Here’s the message he sent out to his followers on Facebook a few hours ago:

“I’m happy to let you guys know that I’ve selected my next project! I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life they are wrong.”

Shankar comes to the project with an impressive set of credentials behind him, including his YouTube-based Bootleg Universe of short films in which he has given his unique spin to to licensed characters ranging from Punisher and Venom to The Power Rangers. He’s also produced several films including: The Grey, Dredd, Walk Among the Tombstones, and The Voices. His new HBO series, Adi Shankar’s Gods and Secrets is in post-production, and his animated series based on the classic Konami game Castlevania (Written by comic icon Warren Ellis) is set to hit Netflix later this month.
