My biggest question about the live action Beauty and The Beast remake from Disney has always been: Why? This new featurette does its best to answer it for us all. For me, I’m still not sure that they’ve answered it to my satisfaction. According to director, Bill Condon, the main reasons were the opportunity to retell the story in live action with photo real effects and to help revive Belle as a new heroine for the 21st Century.
Between the footage and behind the scenes looks, we get to see the majority of the cast tell us how much care they took with the film and how special it will be. I hope they are right. The good news is that, even if if it sucks, we always have the timeless animated masterpiece that came before it.
“Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.
Beauty and the Beast stars: Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Ewan McGregor as Lumière, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, Audra McDonald as Garderobe, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts.
Beauty and the Beast opens in U.S. theaters nationwide on March 17, 2017.
