Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno Took 1st place in the box office race this week, but a closer look at the numbers shows that the Borat follow up isn’t doing as well as expected. When a movie premiers, especially one with as big a hype as Bruno, They do well on Friday, have an increase on Saturday and then a dip on Sunday. In Fact, when Borat came out, that’s exactly what happened. On it’s opening weekend, Borat saw a 10% increase between Friday and Saturday and then a 30% drop on Sunday. Now, Take a look at Bruno. Bruno took a 40% dip from Friday to Saturday and then an additional 19% drop on Sunday. This points to one of two scenarios. Either the studio has massively over-estimated the audience int he film and all the die hard fans came out opening day… Or, Word of Mouth for the film has not been able to bring in more viewers.
In a close second, with 28 million Dollars, Ice Age 3 Stayed strong after last week’s premier. Just behind it was Transformers 2 at $24 million, Public Enemies at $14 Million and The Proposal at $10 million.
