Yesterday Fox 411 reported that John Krasinski of “The Office” fame was the frontrunner for the role of Avengers leader Captain America in Joe Johnston’s “The First Avenger: Captain America.” But that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.
Both Heat Vision and Deadline have reported that Krasinski is no longer in the running. And those still in include Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy), Wilson Bethel (Generation Kill) and to an extent Mike Vogel (Cloverfield). All four contenders to wield the shield are reportedly still reading for the role, have tested or have received test offers.
“The First Avenger: Captain America” is scheduled for a July 22, 2011 release so there still a lot of time until a decision is made. In the meantime, it’s all just speculations and rumors. For all we know, some completely unnamed and unknown may win the role.
