The Captain Marvel Rotten Tomatoes score is out with a certified fresh score of 89%. The reviews post to a mostly positive, if not uneven viewing experience with some reviewers arguing that the movie falters at the start and finds its footing and the other reviewers saying it starts off strong and stumbles at the end. Either way this feels like a film that is coming to the theaters with everyone having strong opinions about it one way or the other and leaving without any strong feelings either way.
With the movie tracking for an opening weekend that should be somewhere between $80 million and $130 million, depending on who you ask, it’s interesting to see where they are going with the marketing in the final run-up to the movie’s release. In the same way that Captain Marvel will take us into the depths of space and to places we never dreamed the MCU would take us, it looks like there was similar thought in relation to the marketing. No, they aren’t taking us to space with the newest ad, they are giving us Kris Jenner (Kim Kardashian/ Kylie Jenner’s mom) and Lisa Rinna (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) because someone thought that would be the target market for this film?
This marks the first time Disney has reached out to the E! network reality show fanbase for possible ticket sales. Is it original, I guess. Is it an oddly placed use of marketing dollars that is not going to result in a single movie ticket being sold, I’m almost positive. Is it a strange pop culture landmark that shows what a weird world we live in? You betcha!
