Back in May David Fincher was in negotiations with Disney to direct a remake of the big screen adaptation of “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.” It is now confirmed that Fincher will direct.
This is great news as Fincher is one of the up and coming visionary directors and I’m really excited to see what he could do to this classic Jules Verne science fiction epic.
“20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” follows the story of Pierre Aronnax, a French professor of marine biology, who is taken prisoner aboard the rogue submarine Nautilus. He travels the world with his captors undersea, and during their time aboard the Nautilus, the men experience exciting adventures hunting in underwater forests, visiting islands with angry natives, visiting the lost city of Atlantis and fish for giant pearls.
The original “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” was produced in 1954 and starred Kirk Douglas. It was the first science fiction film produced by Walt Disney Pictures, as well as the only science-fiction film produced by Walt Disney himself.
