Comedian turned actor Denis Leary (Rescue Me) is currently in negotiations with Sony Pictures to play Police Captain George Stacy in Marc Webb’s “Spider-Man 3D” reboot. If all goes to plan, and there’s no reason to think it won’t, Leary will play the father of Peter Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).
Fan may recall that Captain Stacy made his first appearance in “Spider-Man 3” and was played by James Cromwell. It’s unknown what Captain Stacy’s role will be in this reboot, but if it’s anything like the comics he’d be an excellent character and I think Leary would definably shine in his role.
“Spider-Man” has a July 3rd 2012 release date and it stars Andrew Garfield, Martin Sheen and Rhys Ifans.
