Disney has been working hard to bring all of its properties up to the modern era when it comes to racial equality, anti-racism, and eliminating stereotypical representations of minorities. One of the biggest changes that Disney fans have seen in the last year was the announcement that Splash Mountain would be getting revamped away from the problematic ‘Song Of The South’ in favor of new theming based on The Princess and The Frog.

The new ride will call back to the Mardi-Gras celebration in the film and will take place after Tiana and Naveen’s dance at Tiana’s Palace. After climbing into log flumes and traveling through colorful canals with Tiana, Naveen, Louis, and the silhouettes of the animal jazz band, riders will go on a stirring journey with the characters culminating in Splash Mountain’s famous Log Flume drop and the ultimate Mardis Gras Party. Many of the specifics are still being held back, but it’s being said that riders will actually feel like active participants in the story.

“We are taking the beautiful, wonderful character of Tiana,” Charita Carter said during the conversation, “And we’re bringing her to an immersive space so that our guests can have an experience and an adventure with her both at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland.”
