Jodie Whittaker is a good actor. Chris Chibnall is a good showrunner. They have both proved this when they made the amazing series, Broadchurch, which starred David Tennant and Olivia Coleman. Unfortunately, the magic they captured there did not translate to the Doctor Who franchise, and now both of their time on the show is coming to an end.

It turns out that the first trailer for their final story dropped online two days ago and we just didn’t notice. Honestly, no one really noticed. it’s been up for more than two days and has only 325k views. That’s really not impressive for a franchise as beloved as Doctor Who.

So, here’s what we know. The finale of Wittaker’s run is pulling out all of the stops. Before the Doctor regenerates, she’ll have to take on The Daleks, the Cyberman, and The Master. Helping her will be current companions Yaz and Dan (Mandip Gill and John Lewis).

Interestingly, the show will also bring back classic companions Janet Fielding (played Tegan Jovanka, a companion to both Tom Baker and Peter Davison’s 4th and 5th doctors) and Sophie Aldred (played Ace alongside Sylvester McCoy’s 7th Doctor).

When the dust settles, we don’t know who will be holding the sonic screwdriver, but Russel T. Davies will be back in control of the franchise for the first time since he left during Matt Smith’s run as the 11th Doctor.
