In very confusing announcement from Marvel, just moments ago, the studio has just confirmed that Edgar Wright has vacated his position as the director of Ant-Man.
Here’s the official announcement:
Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.
Here’s the confusing part. Wright has been involved with this movie for nearly five years. he co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish and Kevin Feige credited him with helping them build the strategy for how to introduce characters into their film universe. Unless Wright suddenly decided that the Ant-Man should be a serial panda rapist, I’m not sure what artistic differences could have been big enough to cause the split.
