It was announced today that Starz is picking up Sam Raimi’s new TV adaptation of Evil Dead and that the series would be heading to the small screen in 2015, complete with Bruce Campbell in the starring role and Sam Raimi behind the camera. The official title for the new show is: Ash Vs. Evil Dead.
The story for the new series picks up 30 years after the events of Army of Darkness in which Ash has been “avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terrors of the Evil Dead.” He’s then forced out of retirement when a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind.
The show is slated for 10, 30 minute episodes. No word on whether it’s a contained story or if they are looking at making it a multi-season series.
Here’s what Sam Raimi had to say about the series:
“Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”
