Expect More Of ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ In 2013

Despite it’s poor opening, DreamWork’s fantasy adventure “How To Train Your Dragon” has since dominated the US box office due to positive word of mouth and an engrossing 3D experience. To be blunt, it made a ton of money and naturally as a result, DreamWorks has officially tagged it as a franchise. Fans can now expect more “Dragons” in 2013 and upcoming years (Perhaps replacing the Shrek franchise).

According to financial reports, DreamWorks’ Jeffrey Katzenberg announced the studio’s plan: “2010 is off to a strong start, thanks in large part to the performance of How To Train Your Dragon, which – having grossed nearly $375 million to date in worldwide box office – has become DreamWorks Animation’s next franchise. We plan to release the sequel theatrically in 2013.”

If you’re thinking that three years is a short timeline to get a CG animated film made, it’s not impossible. Directors Dean DeBlois and Chris Saunders who developed the first film in less time than that.

The sequel is expected to follow the adventures of Hiccup and Toothless along with their new found dragon friends. If you’re familiar with the original novel, then you probably know that the story is just beginning!
