Around 24 hours ago, the fine folks over at THR gave a review for “Iron Man 2” that was so harsh that it may as well have been a giant atomic wedgie for the entire fanboy community. Yes, “Iron Man” will be a tough movie to beat. It was arguably one of the best comic book movies ever made and was even good enough to help us forget craptastical sucklogs like “Batman Forever” and “Spider-Man 3.” You’d have to guess that the quality would dip a little bit. It happens in almost every series. Come on… Not every sequel can be “Empire Strikes Back”, but that doesn’t mean that we are in for another “Transformers 2.”
I’m not usually one to bash a review. After all, opinions are like… well, let’s just say that they’re subjective. That said, Kirk Honeycutt’s review just seems to be filled with the kind of over the top snarkiness that makes me think that Tony Stark himself showed up at his breakfast table and personally pissed in his Wheaties. From the first five words of the review (“Well, that didn’t take long”), you know that whatever is coming after is going to be ugly.
Absolutely, the guy has points that are probably valid. In fact, some of his criticisms go as far as to unfortunately confirm a couple concerns I have about the film like too many villains and the over reliance on CGI. That said, he seems to be complaining about some pretty random stuff in here, like the fact that Nick Fury is wearing an eye patch…
Then, and I say this to you partially as a warning before you click the link below, he decides to give away major spoilers for the film ten days before it hits the big screen. Where we come from, you warn before you spoil, otherwise, that kind of makes you a jerk. I’m just sayin…
Does Iron Man 2 suck? I don’t know, I haven’t seen it. Could it possibly suck this bad? It really just doesn’t seem conceivable. I guess we’ll know in just a little bit over a week.
