I’m not going to lie. I’m very nervous about this. I grew up with The Tick animated series and I couldn’t imagine a better live action take on the character than what we got with Patrick Warburton. The moment Amazon announced that they’d be making their own live action version of the show, with a grittier feel, I got a very uneasy feeling. That said, I’m a big fan of Peter Serafinowicz, and I’m more than willing to at least give him a shot.
Today, Amazon released the first couple images from the show, giving us our first look at Serafinowicz in costume. It’s definitely in the spirit of The Tick, but you can also see where they are going for a much more realistic vibe. Along with that image, we also get a second shot of Whoopi Goldberg interviewing Brendan Hines’ character, Superian.
Fans will get their first chance to watch the tick when the pilot debuts on Amazon on August 9th. You can vote on whether or not you like it and that will determine whether they take it to full series or not. Other shows going up for a vote this year include I Love Dick, starring Kevin Bacon, and Jean-Claude Van Johnson, starring… Well, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
