The first trailer for Todd’ Phillips’ The Joker is out and it does not disappoint. The new film feels as far away from the typical comic book film as you can get and that might be exactly what DC needs to show the audiences what they can bring to the table when they aren’t trying to be Marvel. It’s dark, but in a way that reads a lot closer to Scorsese than Snyder and it looks like a film that will give us one of the first true psychological examinations into the origin of a villain. Or, at least that’s how the trailer feels. Hopefully, the movie lives up to it.
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, the man who will become Joker along with Zazie Beets, Marc Maron, Shea Whigham, Frances Conroy, Bill Camp, Brian Tyree Henry and Glenn Fleshler. Joker opens in theaters on October 4th.
