No one is looking at The Power Rangers film and expecting a genre movie on par with Logan. The reality is that it needs to be entertaining to the kids, sell a bunch of toys, and get less critical hate than TMNT. If it can accomplish those three tasks, and show well in the Chinese box office, you can guarantee that there will be annual Power Rangers films booked for the foreseeable future.
While the firs trailer had me feeling like we were in for Gossip Girl with Mechas, subsequent trailers have shown off a more fun side of the movie. Now, as the first clip comes through, they are giving us our first official intro to Alpha 5 (yes, I know he’s been in the trailers). Interestingly, they’ve imbued the comedic sidekick robot with a slew of new CGI abilities. I guess that means he’ll be a lot more active and a lot less “Ay, yi, yi!” This iteration of Alpha is being voiced by Bill Heder, in contrast to the original, which was voiced by Richard Horvitz (The Voice of Invader Zim).
SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.
