The first photos from the set of J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” sequel have made their way online. Best of all, it gives us our first look at the new villain from the film which is currently in production.
The images features Zachary Quinto (Spock) and Zoe Saldana (Uhura) along side new cast member Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays their still-unnamed adversary.
British actor Benedict Cumberbatch who is best known for his lead role in “Sherlock,” the BBC’s modern-day Sherlock Holmes series had replaced Benicio del Toro who was originally cast to star as the villain, but dropped out due to negotiation issues.
Even though Cumberbatch’s character has been revealed visually, little is known about who he really is. From the looks of things, it appears as if he’s a member of the Starfleet, as he’s wearing a black Starfleet shirt similar to the kind Kirk wore in the first movie before becoming an officer. He’s also engaged in hand-to-hand combat with Spock, which would indicate that he’s just as strong as a Vulcan.
“Star Trek 2” beams into theaters May of 2013.
