Kurt Russell has been several iconic characters over the years from Snake Plissken to Jack Burton, but one character he’s never played before was Saint Nick, at least not until now. the iconic actor is teaming up with Harry Potter/ Home Alone director, Chris Columbus for the new Netflix film, ‘The Christmas Chronicles.’

In the new movie, Russell plays a cooler than average Santa, who is on a mission to save Christmas with the help of some kids. So, it’s pretty much almost every Christmas movie, but now Kurt Russell is Santa. The trailer bares out a fairly by the numbers looking film, but it has the Chris Columbus look that has made so many timeless family hits over the years, along with a very Jack Burtonesque feeling Russell as Santa Clause. This trailer might not make me want to pay money for the film at the theater, but it has me curious enough to give it a shot when it drops on the network on November 22.

THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES, a holiday adventure from producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”) and director Clay Kaytis (“The Angry Birds Movie”), tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa – as you’ve never seen him before – and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it’s too late.
