Charlies Angels is back again with a new team for a whole new generation. This time around the Angels are being played by Kristen Stewart (Twilight/ Snow White and The Huntsman), Naomi Scott (Power Rangers), and Ella Balinska (A Modern Tale). Elizabeth Banks is not only directing the film, but she’s playing the team’s handler, Bosley. But, she’s not the only Bosley this time around. Now, the organization apparently has several teams of Angels around the world, each with their own Bosley, including Patrick Stewart. Joining them is a support team made up of Djimon Hounsou, Noah Centineo, Sam Claflin, and Jonathan Tucker.
My first impressions of this movie is that it’s probably not going to be great. Several lines from the trailer sound like they are cribbed off of trending Twitter posts, the focus of the trailer seems to be more about the soundtrack than the film, and the cast appears to lack even the small amount of chemistry that Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu shared in the the last reboot of the franchise. I’m not wishing for this movie to fail, but it’s rare I get bored in the middle of a two minute trailer.
In Banks’ bold vision, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose security and investigative agency has expanded internationally. With the world’s smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe, there are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs everywhere. The screenplay is by Elizabeth Banks from a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn.
