I’m going to be honest. While I loved the first John Wick movie and Keanu Reeves’ performance in it, this is not the sequel I was hoping for. The original film had a perfect ending. John should have been left alone to walk off with his dog. However, there is a great story to tell around the hotel from the film and specifically, around Lance Reddick’s hotel manager character named Charon. Instead, it looks like we are going to get a story about how Wick is drawn out retirement again, but this time not for a reason as heart wrenching as revenge against the guys who killed his dead wife’s puppy gift. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still see the movie. I’ll just be sad that it seems to be going for the easy sequel instead of setting up what could have been a great franchise.
Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers. Lionsgate’s “John Wick: Chapter 2” arriving in theaters on February 10, 2017.
