It was smart of Taika Waititi to wait until today to drop the first trailer for his long-awaited, anti-hate satire, Jojo Rabbit. If he’d have done it during Comic-Con, it would have been overshadowed by his announcement of Thor: Love and Thunder. Now, we have the chance to check out the trailer without any distractions and it’s very promising.
If you haven’t heard of Jojo Rabbit, it tells the tale of a boy growing up in the Hitler Youth during WWII. He’s dealing with the absence of his father and the discovery that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl from the Nazis. The only person he can turn to in his time of need is Hitler. Well, his imaginary friend version of Hitler as played by the film’s director, Taika Waititi.
It’s a really original concept with a stellar cast that includes: Scarlett Johansson, Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, and Sam Rockwell. Jojo Rabbit hits theaters on October 18th.
Here’s how Waititi announced the trailer release on Twitter just moments ago:
From “Visionistical” director, Teeka Wachichi, here’s a “teezer traylor”, for my anti-hate satire, #JojoRabbit, in theaters October 18. @rebelwilson @alfieeallen #ThomasinMcKenzie #RomanGriffinDavis @stephenmerchant #samrockwell #scarlettjohansson @jojorabbitmovie #visionistical
Writer director Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK, HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE), brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film. JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers that his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his naïve patriotism.
