Deadline is reporting that Amazon’s upcoming series based on The Lord of The Rings book series has just found its first series regular in Australian actress Markella Kavenagh. While she’s the only person who has currently been named as a part of the cast, we do know that the new series will take place in the years leading up to the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.
There are still a lot of people hoping that some of the characters from the Peter Jackson directed LOTR films will find their way into the new series, and there’s a good chance it could happen. After all, Sir Ian MicKellen’s Gandalf and Orlando Bloom’s Legolas are hundreds of years old by the time we meet them. Not to mention characters like Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) and Elrond (Hugo Weaving).
Here’s hoping that this announcement isn’t just a one-off, but may actually be the beginning of a string of new announcements that unveil the entire cast of the series to fans.
