This is one of those movies that is not going to be a big hit in theaters, but the movie will generate a lot of talk. As to whether or not the talk will be positive is yet to be determined. While critics at the Toronto film festival mostly liked it, some cautioned that the film was too weird and that the way it tackled particular concepts about procreation were very graphic. In a way, this almost sounds like a Lars Von Trier movie… in space.
The TLDR of it is that Robert Pattinson is a death row inmate in space with his baby. Everyone else is dead or missing and the movie explores what happened as we prepare for Pattinson and son to get sucked into a black hole. Sounds like a good time to me! Playing the film’s baddie is none other than iconic French actress, Juliet Binoche. Mia Goth and Andre Benjamin also star in the film which opens April 12th.
Monte (Robert Pattinson) and his baby daughter are the last survivors of a damned and dangerous mission to deep space. The crew—death-row inmates led by a doctor (Juliette Binoche) with sinister motives—has vanished. As the mystery of what happened onboard the ship is unraveled, father and daughter must rely on each other to survive as they hurtle toward the oblivion of a black hole. A staggering and primal film about love and intimacy, suffused with anguished memories of a lost Earth, High Life is a haunting, thrilling achievement from visionary director Claire Denis.
