Earlier today, the first trailer dropped for the long-awaited Tom Hanks film ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’. In the movie, Hanks plays Mister Rogers in a true story about his relationship with the reporter that reluctantly took the assignment to interview him.
The internet seems to be gushing about this trailer, but I can’t help but feel like I’m watching someone do an impersonation of Mister Rogers. I’m hoping that I’m feeling that just from the small amount of footage in the trailer. Perhaps after five minutes in the movie, I’ll lose myself in Tom Hanks performance, but right now, it just feels like I’m watching Tom Hanks.
I’ve got high hopes for the movie, and I’m not giving up. I just think I’m missing the magic that everyone else is getting from the nostalgic angle of the trailer. Along with Hanks, the film stars Matthew Rhys as journalist Tom Junod, Enrico Colatoni, Chris Cooper, and Susan Kelechi Watson,
