The Muppet Christmas Carol is not only one of the best versions of the Dickens’ classic, but it’s also the movie I went to on my very first date, so it’s going to have a special place in my heart. Now, Disney and Brian Henson have announced that an entire song that was cut from the original theatrical release has been found and is being remastered for what will most likely be a 4k Release of the film. So, take a moment out of your day and check out “when love is gone.”
UPDATE (9th December 2020): According to Brian Henson, Disney have found the lost negative for the song and remastered it in 4K. Hopefully it will finally be restored to the Disney+ version and a new 4K Blu-ray! This is the letterbox widescreen version of When Love Is Gone from The Muppet Christmas Carol. Taken from the LaserDisc version of the movie. The LaserDisc was the only home video release to have the song included in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. According to Brian Henson, the original negative for the scene has been lost, making it unlikely that the scene can ever be remastered in its original aspect ratio. Although the scene is now available in HD as an extra on Disney+, I believe this has been cropped from the best available 4:3 version.
