Fox has landed the rights to a series adaptation of the 2005 Will Smith romantic comedy “Hitch” after outbidding several networks.
The project is described as an one-hour action comedy and at the time it’s uncertain who’d pen the script. It could either be Will Smith, james Lassiter or Peter Chiarelli (The Proposal). Sony Pictures TV and Overbrook will produce.
For those who don’t remember the popular romantic-comedy, it starred Smith as a dating consultant who ends up finding love for himself.
This marks the TV debut for Chiarelli who also is writing feature action comedy “Most Wanted,” which reunites him with “The Proposal” stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds and director Anne Fletcher.
Overbrook and Sony TV had tried to adapt “Hitch” into a TV series three seasons ago when it was developed as a half-hour single-camera comedy at CBS with writer Ben Wexler.
