Greta Gerwig is gearing up for the release of her biggest film to date with Barbie starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and Simu Liu. Now it’s been announced that she’s jumping from toys to high fantasy as the director of the upcoming Chronnicles of Narnia films for Netflix.

Netflix has been working to bring the tales of C.S. Lewis’ to their streaming network since 2018 and they’ve already announced that Disney-Pixar writer Matthew Alrich is onboard as the creative architect over the Narnia universe.

We currently have no idea if Gerwig is planning to update the tales to make them more socially relevant, or if she’s going to stick close to the source material. One thing is for sure, CS Lewis fans are pretty vocal about adaptations. While Disney’s first film, The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, was a big hit, failure to follow through on other films with equal quality proved to be a big problem for the studio. It will be interesting to see if they are able to adapt the stories in a way that both satisfies the die-hards and attracts the masses, or if they are going to end up with another Deathnote.
