When a studio suddenly drops 5, 10 second trailer for a film, I wonder if it’s to excite us or because the film is only exciting when watched in 10 second chunks. While I personally don’t really buy into the white washing claims in the instance of the Ghost in The Shell live action adaption, it’s still a pretty hot button issue for a lot of people. For me, the concern has always been what we’ve seen thus far out of the production in terms of quality.
In looking at these clips, I’ll give them credit for capturing a lot of the original manga and anime’s aesthetic, but something still feels very off about the whole thing. Who knows. Perhaps I’m just worried that if this film does well, they’ll go back and dust off their idea of making an Americanized version of Akira again.
Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
