In a world of half-assed reboots and legacy sequels, the first trailer for Ghostbusters Afterlife may actually be better than some of the whole movies that have come out in recent years. It definitely goes a long way towards wiping the taste of Ghostbusters 2016 out of our mouths and our memories.
As suspected, the new film will focus on the daughter and grandchildren of Egon Spengler, as they inherit his farm in the middle of nowhere and soon find out what someone like Egon was doing so far from the big city… he was hunting ghosts!
The casting of Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and Mckenna Grace all see perfect from both a tonal and appearance perspective as the descendants of Egon. Rudd adds the perfect conduit into the story for all the 80s kids who grew up loving the franchise, and the backdrop of Bill Murray’s voice in the background as the Ecto-1 roars to life is enough to make gen-Xers feel like a kid again.
While it would have been awesome to see Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, or Anni Potts (who we are assuming will be the grandmother to Wolfhard and McKenna), this trailer gave us pretty much we could hope for from an opening look at the re-introduction to one of the most beloved movie franchises of the 80s.
