For months, fans have been speculating that Mechagodzilla was going to be the big bad in the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong culmination of the new monsterverse films. He’s been kept out of trailers, not mentioned in interviews, and everyone has been pretty mum on the subject. Well, with the movie just days away from hitting theaters and HBO Max, Director Adam Wingard has made it official by posting an Instagram post with the same toy we saw in Walmart this weekend, the toy of Mechagodzilla. We just hope he looks better on-screen… that is one goofy-looking robot.
We’re not sure if the studio is more relieved or disappointed that the news made it out on toy shelves before the theater hit screens, but that’s just what happens now. More often than not, you can check Funko Pop!, LEGO, or even the action figure aisle weeks before a film hits theaters and you’ll learn major plot points and character reveals.
Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir. You can check it out on the big and small screen when it drops on March 31st.
