If you had told me five minutes ago that I’d be excited to see a movie based on the Gran Turismo video game franchise from PlayStation, I would have laughed. But, that was five minutes ago. Now that I’ve seen the trailer, I’m genuinely excited. The film, which is based less on the game and more on a true story about someone who played the game, looks compelling, action-packed, and a lot of fun. It’s an underdog story with a great cast including David Harbour, Orlando, Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner, and Djimon Hounsou. Not to mention that the movie is directed by Distric 9’s Neill Blomkamp.
Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.
