Despite a lot of speculation and mix reports, it appears as if “Harry Potter” director David Yates is genuine when he previously stated that he will be developing a “Doctor Who” movie. Recently, Yates spoke with MTV about the status of a “Doctor Who” movie, and while not much has changed from what we last reported back in November, I believe this is a definitive answer that, YES, there will be a “Doctor Who” film, and it is NOT simply a rumor.

Here’s what Yates had to say:
“I can’t really talk about that because its such a long way away. We’re principally looking for a writer, and we’ll start with that. Everything has to start with a great script, so that’s more important than [casting].”

Yates also added that he plans to take his time with “Doctor Who,” so it is done right. So fans shouldn’t expect a “Doctor Who” movie anytime soon. But it will happen.

“I’ve lived with pressure for so long. What’s pressure? I don’t know anymore! It’s fine, it’s good. It’s such a wonderful character and such a wonderful world. It’s exciting.” For now, Yates is taking his time with “Who,” and enjoying some much earned rest after finishing his work on the “Potter” films. “It’s a long journey and we’re going to take our time with it. Right now I’m looking forward to a vacation, frankly!”

Personally, I can’t think of anyone better than Yates to helm a “Doctor Who” movie. He has the perfect vision and style and if he wants to take his time with it, I say let him. I’d rather have “Doctor Who” become a potential movie franchise than a one film bust.
